3 Routine Tire Checks to Keep You Off the Side of The Road

Changing your tire on the side the road is one of the most dangerous things you can do.  About 4,000 people each year are killed changing a tire. To prevent yourself from being stranded on the side of the road, here are 3 routine tire checks to keep you off the side of the highway:

Tire Punctures: Check your tires for punctures. If you come across any punctures be sure to replace the affected tire with a spare as soon as possible, because it is never safe to drive on a damaged tire.

Damaged Sidewalls: The sidewall is the side of the tire. The sidewall of your tire can be damaged when you hit curbs or any other objects for that matter. If your sidewall is damaged, this can affect tire pressure. If your sidewall is damaged, please have your tire checked immediately.

Aging: Even though your tire might not show damage or wear, it is important to know when your tires lifespan is up.  Have your vehicle’s tires checked despite the lack of visible damage. Most tire manufacturers recommend changing your tires every ten years no matter what the condition of your tires is.

In the event you find yourself with a flat tire on the side of the road, do not try to change it. Leave it to the professionals. Call Charity Towing and Recovery at 602.242.7489, or fill our convenient contact form. We have operators on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, waiting to hear from you.

5 Safety Tips While Waiting for Towing Service

No Comments 26 October 2015

hiring-the-right-towing-companyWaiting for a tow truck to arrive can be dangerous. Charity Towing and Recovery wants you to be safe.  That’s why we’ve put together this list of five safety tips for you to follow while you wait for towing service.

Find a safe place to stop

Waiting on the side of the road is dangerous.  It is best to bring your vehicle to a stop away from busy highways as far over to the right as possible.  If possible you should stop beneath a street light or near a marker on the side of the road. In some cases you’re not going to have a choice where you stop.  In this case you are probably going to have to leave your vehicle and get far away from the highway as possible.

Try to make your car visible

The chances of other vehicles hitting your broken down car will be reduced if you let other vehicles know where you are.  If you have warning triangles or any other markers, set these out at least 100 yards behind you if possible.  Make sure your hazard lights are on as well.

Keep your phone line free

You may be receiving and incoming call from us or emergency services. It’s also a good idea to keep as much battery life in your phone as possible, so try to avoid using your phone as much as you can.

Be cautious getting help from strangers

While the help of strangers can be great in your time of need, it also puts you at risk.  Just be careful about accepting help from a stranger. Yes, they might have your best interests at heart, but can you be sure?

Ask for I.D.

Finally, when the tow truck service arrives, take the time to check that they are who they say they are.  Always ask the tow truck driver for his I.D. badge. All tow truck operators should have one.
